I was planning on using a photo I took a few weeks ago as an image prompt but it seems we’ve had a few photo prompts lately. This afternoon I read a poem about a found digital camera which made me think of a photo related writing prompt without having to use an actual image. (Yes, my thinking is convoluted so bear with me.) Write about the loss of a special photo. Have fun! |
Photo Courtesy of IStockPhoto.com You can click on that picture to see a larger version of it. Then use that image as inspiration for a poem or short story. |
You don’t have to be a flower aficionado to appreciate a beautiful garden. Write a description of your dream garden – would it have dozens of rose bushes, tulips, lilies, a fountain or two, a bench, or all of the above? Then place a character in it and write about what happens. Perhaps have that character interact with a gardener or other caretaker of the garden. ~ CJ |
This post is meant to serve two purposes. Firstly, I’m testing to make sure the crossposting with this account works and secondly, I’m introducing you all to this new account. Meet PoiseAndPen. As you may know we mirror our writing exercises to a WordPress blog at PoiseAndPen.com. There are a couple reasons for this but the main one is that I want a back up. Just in case. You know how it goes. We ran into a tricky problem because unless everyone has administrator access to the blog they couldn’t change the account that our entries posted under, so the solution is this. One umbrella account that we can all post under. We’ll each be signing our posts so that you know who to credit or blame for them, but you’ll be seeing this name a lot in the coming weeks. P.S. If you post exercises and haven’t received an email from me about this or login information for PoiseAndPen it’s because you never got back to me when I asked if you were willing to mirror your content. If you’d rather not that’s cool, but if you would like to and just missed my question in the original email I sent you drop me a line and we’ll fix the situation. Wheee! |
Nearly all fiction (and non-fiction) has a range of emotions in the work. That’s what moves the reader to laughter or tears. Write about a relationship gone bad. |
These images were too perfect to pass up, but too expensive for me to license for just this prompt. Thus, I’m doing the link thing rather than the ‘post a picture’ thing. Clicking is worth your time. Honestly. In these two images we have the same model, in the same setting wearing the same dress, and yet the mood is completely different between them. Your challenge is to use one, or both of these images as the inspiration for a story or poem. Keep atmosphere in mind as you are writing. |
