An Apology

Saturday, March 12th, 2011

I apologise to anyone who was offended by my last photo prompt. My intentions were good, though perhaps my judgement and timing were somewhat faulty. I’ve removed it from the community, not in an attempt at santiation or revisionism, but so as to avoid further offense or triggering.

Wednesday writing prompt

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Today’s prompt is a “what if”. What if one of your characters suddenly disappeared? Where have they gone, and why? Will they come back? Hopefully this might even be inspiration for any of you NaNoWriMo-ing. Happy writing!

Thursday Exercise

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

Your last Thursday exercise (since NaNo begins Monday morning at midnight!) is simple. Maybe you’re like me and you’re looking for something to eat? You open your fridge and there’s maybe ham. It looks like ham, but how long has it been there? Is it supposed to be that color? Your exercise is to go out and buy groceries because you’re going to need them. NaNo begins soon and you need novelling fuel! Foods, beverages, snacks, caffeine, sugar, that sort of thing. It’s time. Stock up well because who has time to run to the nearest store for a burger when writing!

Today’s prompt is a Halloween-themed what if. What if you were alone on the night of October 31st, during a power cut, and heard a knock at the door? Happy writing…

Thursday Nanowrimo Exercise

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Writing a novel is fun, but sometimes you get stuck because you realize you don’t really know who your main character is. A good way to learn more about your main character is to have a back story. Where did your character come from to end up in the situation he or she is in now? Write a backstory about your character, more specifically, what was your main character doing the day before the incident in your novel?

Nanowrimo Exercise

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Greetings once again! This week’s exercise is similar to last week, except in reverse. Throughout Novemeber you’ll hear something called word war. What is a word war? It’s when everyone sits down for a set period of time and writes continuously without thinking or stopping until the time is up. Usually the set periods are 15 minutes or 30 minutes. This week it will be 15 minutes. If you have an egg timer or a timer set it for 15 minutes. Think of something to write about and when you’re ready start the timer and write. Don’t stop for anything; don’t think about anything; just write. (If you don’t have a timer you’ll have to keep track of the time as you’re writing). So how did you do? How much can write in 15 minutes? Don’t be discouraged if your word count isn’t where you want it to be, this is only to get you warmed up for the exciting month of November!

Wednesday writing prompt

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Hello!
Today’s prompt is a “what if?” Feel free to interpret/modify/add to it as you think fit. What if you, or a character, overheard something that you or they were not supposed to hear? What is it? What happens as a result? Have fun!

Hello all. Today I have a last line for you. It is:

“That was four hundred years ago.”

As I have said in the past, do feel free to change or add words, or give this exact wording a whirl!
