Write a story in which your main character is never referred to by name.
…well, for this week anyway |
Write a story that ends with the following line: …it’s been a hell of a day, he thought and closed his eyes for the final time. |
You may be wondering why I’m putting up an exercise on Tuesday instead of Monday. Well, I was waiting to see if Amber put one up first because I couldn’t remember if I was even Mondays or odd. Turns out, I must be odd — I bet you all knew that already This week start a story with the following line: She missed her train What do you guys think? Should we make this one into a contest? Let me know, if there is enough interest I’ll round up prizes and set some simple rules |
Write your best superhero or supervillian speech. Then, if you feel up to it, you can use it to enter the Show Us Your Super contest. |
I stole this idea from an exercise Conrad Williams used as a contest on Kari Wolfe’s blog Write a short story (no more than 1,000 words) in which each sentence is no more than six words long. |
1. Pick a number between 1 and 180. 2. Pick another number between 1 and 180. 3. Now pick north or south. 4. Now east or west. 5. Combine your answers from 1 and 3. 6. Combine your answers from 2 and 4. This gives you the lattitude and longitude for a very specific point on the map. Find out where that location is (google is your friend) and write a story or a poem with that as the setting. |
